Recqo Privacy Policy

Overview

Recqo helps people discover restaurants through recommendations, reviews, and shared tastes. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Recqo, Inc. ("Recqo," "we," "us," or "our") collects, how we use and disclose it, how long we keep it, and the choices available to you.

We do not sell personal information. We do not currently run third-party advertising, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If we introduce advertising or begin using personal information for ad targeting or attribution, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any notice, consent, and opt-out choices required by law before that use begins.

This Privacy Policy applies to the Recqo iOS app, recqo.com, and related services that link to it (together, the "Service"). Recqo is based in the United States, and the Service is offered only in the United States. If you are outside the United States, do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Sign In with Apple and account information

• Your email address, which we use to create and manage your account. If you use Apple's Hide My Email feature, we receive Apple's relay address rather than your underlying email address.
• An authorization token from Apple that allows us to disconnect Recqo from your Apple ID if you delete your account. We keep only the most recent token and do not use it for other purposes.
• The username you choose and an internal account identifier.

We do not ask Apple for your name, and Apple does not provide it to us.

Preferences and activity

We collect:

• Restaurants you recommend, save, pass on, skip, review, or indicate that you plan to visit.
• Cuisine, atmosphere, price, neighborhood, meal, occasion, party-size, and similar preferences you provide during onboarding or while using the Service.
• Dietary restrictions you choose to provide.
• Restaurant visits you report.
• A short AI-drafted description of your tastes that you can edit or clear.
• Invite-code redemptions and records showing that you accepted restaurant-photo submission terms.

These details are used to operate and personalize Recqo. They are not used to create an advertising profile. We disclose them only as described in this Privacy Policy.

Reviews and photos

We collect:

• Review text; food, atmosphere, and service ratings; dish names and ratings; and related notes.
• Photos you select from your photo library for a review, your critic profile, or a restaurant listing you manage.

Your review text, ratings, dish information, username, and associated review photos may be visible to other Recqo users. Critic profile information may also be public within the Service.

Review and profile photos are stored in non-public storage and displayed through the Service. Restaurant-listing photos that we approve are published at a public web address that can be opened without a Recqo account. Copies may remain in network caches for a short period after removal.

Recqo does not open your camera or microphone. We receive only the photos you select from your library.

Critic profiles

If you create or maintain a critic profile, we collect your first name, biography, location, claimed credential or role, favorite dish, and profile photo. This information is displayed publicly with your critic profile and reviews.

Searches and feed history

We collect:

• What you type into Recqo's search bar and the filters derived from it, such as cuisine, neighborhood, meal, occasion, date, time, party size, and price.
• The restaurant you select from search results and, for some searches, the restaurants returned.
• The restaurants shown to you, their order, and the date, time, party size, neighborhood, mood, and occasion settings active when the recommendations were generated.

Search wording and feed history are stored on Recqo's servers and linked to your account. We do not intentionally send your search wording, review text, or dish notes to our product-analytics provider.

Social and safety features

We collect:

• The accounts you follow and the accounts that follow you.
• Friend connections created when two people follow each other.
• Accounts, reviews, or content you block or report, including any explanation you provide.

Contacts and finding friends

If you choose to use Find Friends, Recqo may ask for permission to access and upload contact information from your device, including names, email addresses, and phone numbers. We use contact information to look for existing Recqo users, suggest connections, and send invitations you request. We may convert contact details into hashed or otherwise transformed identifiers for matching.

Using Find Friends is optional. Please upload or invite a contact only if you have permission to share their information with Recqo. We do not use uploaded contacts for third-party advertising. Turning off contact permission stops future access but does not automatically delete information already uploaded; you or an affected contact may request deletion by emailing legal@recqo.com.

Restaurant claims and management

If you claim or manage a restaurant, we collect your name, phone number, business email address, role at the business, and information you submit about the restaurant. We use the phone number and other contact information to verify that you operate or represent the restaurant. We keep a record of the claim, including if it is rejected, withdrawn, or expires, so that we can manage access to the listing.

Forms, reports, and messages

We collect information you send through a form, report, or message, including when you suggest a restaurant or an edit, report a review or other problem, submit private notes, apply to become a critic, claim a restaurant, or contact us about a job. Depending on the form, this may include your name, username, email address, phone number, account identifier, and free-text message.

We store these records and may email a copy to the Recqo team so a person can respond. Some records are filed under the email address you provide rather than your Recqo account and are not automatically removed when you delete your account. See Section 9.

Location

With your permission, Recqo collects and stores your device's location over time. Depending on your device, permissions, and available technology, this may include GPS, Wi-Fi or network-based location, beacon-based location, and other device-provided location signals. When Precise Location is enabled for Recqo in iOS, the location may be accurate to roughly 100 meters. Location records may include coordinates or an approximate area, the date and time, the associated account or device, and nearby restaurants or places.

We keep location history that may show where you go and where you have been. We use it to identify or estimate restaurant visits, understand the neighborhoods and areas you frequent, identify popular dining hotspots, analyze movement and dining patterns, personalize recommendations, and improve Recqo. We may combine location history with your searches, saved restaurants, reviews, preferences, and other activity to infer restaurants or areas that may interest you.

Location is collected when your device makes it available to Recqo under the permissions you grant. If you enable a device permission that allows it, Recqo may collect location while the app is running in the background. You can stop future collection by turning location access off, or reduce its accuracy by disabling Precise Location, in iOS Settings. Changing the permission does not delete location history already collected; you can request deletion as described in Section 12.

Information collected automatically

When you use the Service, we automatically collect:

• Device and app information, such as device type, operating-system version, app version and build, language, time zone, and screen size.
• Your internal account identifier and username, which may be attached to analytics events.
• Screens opened, app lifecycle events, and actions taken in the Service.
• Restaurants viewed, saved, passed on, reviewed, or selected for a visit. Some events include the restaurant's name, neighborhood, cuisine, and internal identifier.
• Location history and inferences derived from it, such as likely restaurant visits, frequently visited areas, dining hotspots, and location-based preference patterns.
• Crash and error information, including technical details about a failure and a short trail of network requests and diagnostic messages that occurred before it.
• Internet Protocol addresses received by service providers when your device connects to their systems.

We do not use the iOS advertising identifier, record your screen, or use session replay.

Information we do not collect

We do not currently collect:

• Camera or microphone recordings.
• Screen recordings or session replays.
• Payment information, because Recqo currently does not process purchases.

2. Sensitive Personal Information

Precise geolocation

When iOS Precise Location is enabled, the location Recqo collects may qualify as precise geolocation under California law. We collect and analyze it over time to provide nearby recommendations and map features, identify or estimate restaurant visits, find dining hotspots, understand your location and dining patterns, and personalize the Service. This analysis may create inferences about the restaurants, neighborhoods, or types of places you are likely to visit.

We do not use location information for third-party advertising, sell it, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can stop future collection by disabling location access in iOS Settings, provide only a less precise location by disabling Precise Location, or ask us to limit use of or delete stored location history by contacting legal@recqo.com.

Dietary restrictions

Dietary choices can reveal sensitive information. For example, Halal, Kosher, No pork, or No alcohol may reveal religious beliefs, while Gluten-free, No nuts, No shellfish, or No dairy may reveal health information or an allergy.

Providing dietary restrictions is optional. We use them to avoid recommending restaurants that may not meet your needs. We do not use them for advertising or disclose them to analytics providers. Our database provider processes them on our behalf as necessary to operate the Service. You can change or clear them in your profile.

3. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

• Create, maintain, secure, and support your account.
• Provide and personalize restaurant recommendations, search results, maps, profiles, reviews, social features, and restaurant-management tools.
• Generate and improve taste summaries and recommendations.
• Use location history to identify or estimate restaurant visits, find popular dining hotspots, understand individual and aggregate dining patterns, and personalize recommendations.
• Create location-based inferences about restaurants, neighborhoods, and dining experiences that may interest you. We do not use these inferences to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
• Publish content and profile information you choose to make visible to others.
• Process restaurant claims, reports, forms, and support requests.
• Understand how the Service is used, evaluate features, diagnose errors, and improve performance.
• Prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents; enforce our Terms of Use; and protect users and the public.
• Comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes.

Some personalized copy may be generated using Apple's on-device AI capabilities. When that path is used, the information used for the generation remains on your device.

4. Public Information and Your Directions

Content you contribute to public areas of Recqo is intended for public display. Depending on the feature and your settings, this may include your username, profile photo, biography, general location, claimed critic credential, reviews, ratings, dish information, photos, lists, reactions, restaurants you publicly indicate you visited or want to visit, people you follow, followers or friends, and other contributions or activity you choose to make public. Content metadata may include the date, time, and location associated with a contribution.

Public information may be visible to other Recqo users or to anyone on the internet. Other people may copy, cache, download, screenshot, redistribute, or store it outside Recqo. Search engines and third-party services may also retain copies. Recqo cannot control or be responsible for what other people do with information after it has been made public.

Approved restaurant-listing photos are available at public web addresses. Your private messages, uploaded contacts, search wording, and precise location history are not made public unless you choose to include that information in public content.

If you share a profile or list link, the recipient and the hosting provider receive the web address you shared. A shared-profile address may contain your internal account identifier.

We may disclose information when you direct us to do so, such as when you publish a review, share a profile, or open a restaurant website, directions provider, or ride service.

5. How We Disclose Information

We do not sell personal information. We do not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information to the following categories of recipients:

• Cloud hosting, database, storage, and authentication providers, which process account information, preferences, content, photos, searches, activity records, uploaded contacts, location history and related inferences, claims, forms, and other information needed to operate Recqo.
• Sign-in and device-platform providers, which process authentication information and may provide on-device capabilities. Information processed entirely through an on-device feature does not leave your device through Recqo.
• Artificial-intelligence service providers, which may receive limited taste selections or other inputs needed to generate a feature you request. Where practical, we remove direct identifiers such as your name and email address before sending an input.
• Product-analytics providers, which may receive account or device identifiers, usernames, device and app information, screens opened, app lifecycle events, and information about restaurants you view, save, pass on, or review. This may include a restaurant's name, neighborhood, cuisine, and internal identifier. We do not currently use product analytics for third-party advertising.
• Crash-reporting, security, and fraud-prevention providers, which may receive technical details about failures, device and app information, requested web addresses, diagnostic messages, and a short trail of activity preceding an error. We do not use session replay.
• Mapping and location-service providers, which may receive your IP address, device or location information, and the area of a map you view as necessary to provide maps, nearby results, and location features.
• Email, SMS, and communications providers, which receive destination contact information and message contents as needed to deliver account messages, invitations, reports, forms, and other communications.
• Friend-matching and invitation providers, which may process uploaded contact details or transformed contact identifiers to find existing users and deliver invitations you request.
• Website and shared-link hosting providers, which receive visitors' IP addresses and requested web addresses. A shared-profile or list address may contain a Recqo account identifier.

These recipients process information under their applicable terms and our agreements with them. They may maintain systems in the United States and other countries.

We may also disclose information:

• To comply with law, legal process, or a valid government request.
• When reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Recqo, our users, or the public.
• In connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections and notice where required.
• With your direction or consent.

6. Advertising and Marketing

Recqo does not currently display third-party advertisements or use personal information for targeted advertising or ad attribution. We do not currently disclose precise location, uploaded contacts, or dietary information to advertising partners.

We may introduce advertising in the future. Before using personal information for targeted or location-based advertising, sharing it with advertising partners, or using advertising identifiers, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any consent, opt-out mechanism, privacy-choice link, or other notice required by law.

We may send service-related messages about your account, security, support requests, invitations, or activity. If we send promotional email or text messages, you may opt out using the instructions in the message. Opting out of promotional communications will not stop necessary service or legal messages.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Recqo and its service providers may use cookies, software development kits, local storage, pixels, and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, secure the Service, prevent fraud, understand usage, measure performance, and improve features.

We do not currently use advertising cookies or similar technologies for targeted advertising. If that changes, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any legally required cookie or advertising controls. Browser or device settings may allow you to limit some technologies, although doing so may affect how the Service works.

8. Aggregated and De-identified Information

We may create aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you. We use it to identify dining hotspots, understand movement and restaurant trends, measure the Service, and improve recommendations. For example, we may use aggregated location information to understand which restaurant areas are popular at particular times. We maintain de-identified information in de-identified form and do not attempt to re-identify it, except where permitted by law to test whether our de-identification methods work.

9. Retention and Account Deletion

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, provide and improve the Service, comply with legal, accounting, or reporting requirements, establish or defend legal claims, prevent fraud and abuse, and protect Recqo and its users.

When deciding how long information is needed, we consider its amount, nature, and sensitivity; the risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure; the purposes for which we process it; whether those purposes can be achieved another way; the expectations created when it was collected; and applicable legal requirements.

In general:

• Account information, preferences, private activity, uploaded contacts or matching identifiers, search and feed history, precise location history, and location-based inferences are kept while your account is active or for as long as needed to provide the related feature.
• Public contributions may remain available until you remove them or delete your account, subject to the exceptions below.
• Analytics, security, crash, and fraud-prevention records are kept for as long as useful to measure the Service, compare releases, investigate incidents, fix errors, and protect the Service.
• Restaurant claims, forms, reports, communications, and business records are kept for as long as needed to resolve the matter, document prior decisions, comply with law, prevent abuse, or resolve disputes.
• Approved restaurant-listing photos and factual restaurant-page information may be retained as part of the restaurant's listing.
• Aggregated or de-identified information may be retained indefinitely because it can no longer reasonably identify you.

When information is no longer required, we delete or de-identify it. If immediate deletion is not possible because the information is stored in a backup, legal hold, or system archive, we restrict it from further use until deletion is possible, except where processing is required by law.

Account deletion

When you delete your Recqo account, access to the account ends immediately. We immediately remove your profile and public contributions from view and delete or dissociate account-linked personal information from active Recqo systems, including saved places, reviews, search history, precise location history, and location-based inferences.

Some information may remain after account deletion when reasonably necessary for the purposes described above. This may include information in rotating backups; records required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or dispute resolution; forms, reports, and communications filed separately from your account; approved restaurant-listing photos; factual restaurant pages and aggregate ratings; de-identified information; and copies made by other users, search engines, caches, or third parties before deletion.

You may request deletion of a retained item by emailing legal@recqo.com. We will evaluate the request under applicable law and may need information to verify your identity and locate the record.

10. Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. These include encrypted transmission, security features provided by our hosting and storage providers, access controls, and measures intended to limit access to people and systems that need the information.

No security measure is perfect. We cannot guarantee that personal information will never be accessed, used, altered, or disclosed without authorization.

11. Data Breach Notification

If a breach affects your personal information, we will provide notice by email at the address associated with your account and, where practical, through the Service, as required by applicable law. The notice will describe the incident, the categories of information involved, steps we have taken, and steps you can take.

12. Your Choices and Requests

You may:

• Edit your username, preferences, dietary restrictions, and profile information through the Service where those controls are available.
• Turn location access or Precise Location off in iOS Settings to stop or reduce future collection. This does not delete location history already collected.
• Delete your account using the Delete Account option in your profile.
• Ask to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information by emailing legal@recqo.com.
• Ask us to limit use of or delete your stored location history and location-based inferences by emailing legal@recqo.com.
• Ask us to remove a specific review, photo, form, report, or other record by emailing legal@recqo.com.

We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and protect your account. Some requests may be limited by law, including where we must retain information or where deletion would affect another person's rights.

13. U.S. State Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live and whether the applicable law covers Recqo or the relevant processing, you may have the right to:

• Confirm whether we process your personal information and access the information we hold about you.
• Know the categories or specific pieces of personal information collected, the sources, the purposes for processing, and the categories of recipients.
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Delete personal information, subject to legal exceptions.
• Receive a portable copy of personal information.
• Opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or certain profiling.
• Limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information or withdraw consent for sensitive-data processing.
• Appeal a decision we make about your privacy request.
• Receive equal service and not be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.

Recqo does not currently sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or process it for targeted advertising. We use precise geolocation to provide nearby and map features, identify or estimate visits, find dining hotspots, analyze location and dining patterns, and personalize recommendations. We do not use profiling to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

To exercise a right, email legal@recqo.com or use Delete Account in the Service. To appeal a denied request, reply to our decision and state that you are submitting a privacy appeal. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authorization and may need to verify your identity directly. We will respond within the period required by applicable law and will explain any denial. We honor legally recognized universal opt-out signals where they apply to a processing activity.

California residents

California residents may have the rights described above, including the right to know, correct, delete, limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information, and opt out of sale or sharing. Recqo does not offer financial incentives in exchange for personal information. You may stop future precise-location collection through iOS Settings and may ask us to limit use of or delete previously collected location information at legal@recqo.com.

14. Washington Consumer Health Data Notice

This section applies to consumer health data covered by Washington's My Health My Data Act.

Categories of consumer health data

Recqo may collect:

• Dietary restrictions, allergies, intolerances, and related preferences you provide.
• Inferences drawn from dietary information that may indicate a physical health condition or religious practice.
• Precise location information that could incidentally indicate that a person sought health-related services or supplies.
• Other information you choose to include in reviews, reports, forms, or messages that identifies a past, present, or future physical or mental health status.

We do not intentionally use location history to infer medical conditions or health-care needs.

Sources and purposes

We collect this information directly from you, from your device when you authorize location access, from your activity in the Service, and from service providers processing information on our behalf. We use it to personalize restaurant recommendations, avoid recommending restaurants that may not meet your dietary needs, provide location features, identify or estimate restaurant visits, respond to requests, secure and operate the Service, and create aggregated or de-identified restaurant and hotspot analytics.

Sharing

We do not sell consumer health data. We disclose it only as needed to provide a feature you request, comply with law, protect the Service, or work with processors acting on our behalf. Relevant recipient categories may include cloud hosting and database providers, mapping and location providers, security providers, communications providers when you send us a health-related message, and professional or legal advisers. Recqo has no affiliates with which it currently shares consumer health data.

Where required, we obtain consent before collecting consumer health data for a new purpose and obtain separate consent before sharing it beyond what is necessary to provide the Service you requested.

Washington rights

Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to confirm whether we collect or share your consumer health data; access the data; receive a list of third parties and affiliates with which it was shared; withdraw consent for future collection or sharing; or delete the data, including by notifying processors as required by law. You may appeal a denial by replying to our decision and stating that you are submitting an appeal.

Submit a request, withdraw consent, or appeal by emailing legal@recqo.com. You may also stop future device-location collection through iOS Settings, but changing the permission does not delete information already collected.

15. Children

Recqo is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 provided personal information to Recqo, contact legal@recqo.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

16. Third-Party Links and Services

The Service may open or link to services that Recqo does not control, including restaurant websites, Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Uber. Those third parties process information under their own privacy policies. Review their policies before providing personal information. Recqo is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service or applicable law changes. We will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide notice through the Service, by email, or by another method required by law before the change takes effect.
